Michael Collins Ajereh (Don Jazzy)-The Music Icon

Don Jazzy
Michael Collins Ajereh, is a Nigerian record producer, singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur well known as Don Jazzy. Born in Umahia, Abia State and raised in Ajegunle in Lagos State. Ajereh music career started at age 12 when he started playing bass guitar and also gained knowledge in other traditional and percussion instruments.

Ajereh has his secondary education at Federal Government College, Lagos and also enrolled to study Business Management at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state. In 2000, Ajereh received an invitation from his uncle in London to play drum for a local church where he also work as a security guard for MCDonalds and continue his music career.

In 2004, Ajereh co-founded Mo’Hits Record with Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo (D’Banj) where the name Don Jazzy become popular; the group which later defunct. Within the 2 years of its existence, he was able to produced two albums; No Long Thing and Rundown/Funk You Up with the third one Curriculum Vitae just started before the defunct. Following the closure of the aforementioned record label, Don Jazzy set up Mavin Records on May 8, 2012.

Don Jazzy music producing career has contributed immensely to the local and international entertainment industry. Although he did not take credit as a singer, he performed background vocals for artists he produced. These performances include vocals for D'Banj, Sauce Kid, Dr SID, Ikechukwu, Kween, D'Prince, Jay-Z. Ajereh provided vocal performance for Kanye West's song Lift Off with Beyoncé on the Watch The Throne album.

In 2011, Don Jazzy, worked for Kanye West as a producer at Very Good Beatz, working with Jay-Z and Kanye West on the production of Lift Off, featuring Beyoncé on the album Watch The Throne which was released on 8 August 2011.

Shortly after setting up Mavin Records, Don Jazzy was choose to endorsed the "Built for Africa" products including an Afro-Pop home theatre launched in Cape Town by The Samsung Company.

In 2012, Don Jazzy appeared in Moses Inwang's movie The Last 3 Digits in Nollywood. His work also received wards in different categories among which includes;

·        Nigerian Music Awards (2006) - Producer of the Year.
·        Nigerian Entertainment Awards (2007) - Music Producer of the Year.
·        The Headies 2011 - Producer of the Year for Over The Moon, Mr Endowed and Pop Something
·        The Headies 2014 - Producer of the Year for Dorobucci.
·        City People Entertainment Award (2015) - special recognition award.
